Launch of new teenage provision

28 July, 2011

Yesterday, 70 disabled teenagers, their families and friends came to celebrate the official launch of Thomley’s new teenage provision, situated within a freshly refurbished Manor Hall. Workshops included cooking, woodwork, clay whistle making and a variety of other social activities.

As it evolves over the coming few years, the project will provide a range of social, healthy living, early vocational and life skills activities. The facility will be available for use by disabled children and young people (0-19 years), not just teenagers. On advertised days Thomley will offer workshops specifically designed for teenagers whilst occasional days will be limited to teenagers only.

Thomley would like to publically acknowledge the kind financial support, without which this project would not have happened. These include the ‘Aiming High for Disabled Children’ teams from Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire County Councils, South Oxfordshire District Council, Aylesbury Vale Community Chest, Coutts Charitable Trust, Santander Foundation, Baily Thomas Charitable Fund, Bruce Wake Charitable Trust, Tolkein Trust, The Big Lottery Fund, Boshier Hinton Foundation, PF Charitable Trust and the Event Shed Ltd.

So to minimise the costs for visitors, this project will need ongoing financial support. If you would like to support the development of teenage activities, please email fundraising@thomleyhall.org

First Home Education Day

28 April, 2011

Thomley’s first ever home education day focused on consultation with families and their children. Starting with introductions, the group discussed why they have opted for home education, the approach they have chosen to take and the support they would like from Thomley.

Group consesus was that Thomley should provide non-curriculum based opportunities for social interaction, exercise and sports, sensory activities, life skills, and activities to develop fine and gross motor skills. Families were eager that the day offered free choide for children with some timetabled activities for those who want to join in a group activity. The group was eager to welcome parents of disabled children who are just thinking about the pros and cons of home education.

Opening at 10am, the next home education day on May 11th will offer a variety of creative, sensory and social activities and will offer timetabled opportunities as follows: -

11:30am – a warm and informal discussion group to introduce new families and share experiences.

12:00pm – a fun and inclusive assault course for children of all ages and abilities.

1:30pm – an interactive sports session

Make a Difference – Barclays & Thomley…

28 October, 2010

For the 11th year running, Barclays is taking part in the CSV Make a Difference Day campaign, from 23 October to 6 November 2010.

Organised by Community Service Volunteers (CSV), a leading volunteering charity, it encourages people to give their time and skills, not their money, to play an active role in community life. On the 1st November a group of local Barclays employees will be coming to Thomley and giving up their time to help us with jobs around the site. We look forward to letting you know how the day goes…
