Future plans

Thomley’s 3 year business plan (2008-2011) aims to maintain the unique quality of services operating since 2002, and to remain responsive to the expressed needs of existing users.

The business plan also clearly defines Thomley’s plans for development and growth.

  • This growth initially refers to increasing the capacities of the Activity Centre to support growing numbers of children who visit with their families, respite carers, groups and schools. The plan particularly focuses on support to disabled children and their families in early years, as well as teenagers during their transition to adulthood.
  • To support the above goal, Thomley’s second area of growth will be to extend the Activity Centre’s upper age bracket from 16 years up to 19 years, thus helping prepare disabled young people for the transition into adulthood.
  • Due to the fact that opportunities for disabled adults are perceived to be very limiting within the Oxfordshire/Buckinghamshire area, Thomley plans to carry out extensive research into the needs and wishes of disabled adults. Depending on the research findings, Thomley’s third area of growth will be to plan for a future Social Programme. Currently we envisage that this programme will facilitate the smooth transition of young disabled people into adulthood, enabling them to: develop skills for independent living; participate in appropriate social and recreational activities; and develop vocational prospects within their own local community.
